The Basics are a Puzzle
Once you Know them, you never have to think of them,
If you Don’t Know them, you can never get past them,
If you Know them, they are Nothing,
If you Don’t Know them, they are Everything,
Take the time to make them Nothing.

  2. If that fails, allow them to initiate their own means of defeat.

Karate is like philosophy. Everybody has his own opinion. Who is right? Who is wrong? Nobody can tell. Each and everyone must try to attain his/her goal and show that they have created something in their lifetimes.

– Mitsusuke Harada.

The main thing is to keep pushing oneself, to keep striving to awaken, by whatever means one has chosen. The difference between the waking person and the person who is asleep is that the sleepwalker feels he’s already awake; the awakened one is still striving, pushing, struggling to be awakened.

Talk less than you listen. Say less than you know. Act as if you are less than you actually are. Understand that what you know is far less than what you don’t know and what you have to teach is far less than what you have to learn. This will enable you to appreciate your own true worth and the value of others from whom you can learn. It is the first step to being real.

Flatter me and I may not believe you.
Criticize me, and I may not like you.
Ignore me, and I may not forgive you.
Encourage me, and I will not forget you.

Just as a jewel needs friction to develop its luster, a man needs trials to develop his character.

"Aikido is not a defensive martial art. Being defensive is a terrible way to go through life."

World With Vision
Suppose everyone suddenly had lost their sight and to do what, in their eyes, they felt was right, they'd learn to face the world again; this time, though, using feeling as they went. Warring of nations would come to an end, none really having the better view. And then all races would naturally blend; none really caring, which color you, are. Could you really say such a world was blind, all being of such superior minds? Perhaps then if sight were restored to them they'd not really need it, and would use feeling again.
